The traditional view that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused Japan's surrender is flawed.
The timing doesn't add up: Japan's leaders didn't seriously discuss surrender until three days after Hiroshima, and the Nagasaki bombing happened after they'd already started these discussions.
In reality, it was Soviet Union's decisive victory in Manchuria that served as the catalyst for unconditional surrender.
